Hi all, I’m struggling to get convenient results from the right-zone when going through VSTs, presets, and the like. I’m still pretty new to Cubase, so if I’m missing something obvious, apologies.
The first problem is that when viewing VSTs, it only shows them in the narrow strip down the middle, leaving lots of wasted space either side. I’d prefer if either the plugin pictures were bigger and therefore easier to read, or if it could show 2 plugins side by side so I’m not scrolling forever to find things - this seems like the worst of both worlds.
Also in the ‘right zone’, I tried adding some Track Presets yesterday to try and get better access to Kontakt and Play instruments (among other things), and the first thing I realize is that there are filters for Sub Category and Character at the top - but no apparent way to edit the track templates here to add those attributes. How would I do that?
Also, if I click on a Track Template in there, it actually loads the whole instrument automatically to enable the preview keyboard at the bottom. But I don’t want that because it can be incredibly slow! Some of these big samplers take 10 seconds or more to load, during which Cubase is entirely frozen. Can that be switched off?
I also find the column headings frustrating. For track templates I have no use for Rating, Tempo, or Key, so I switch those off and switch Instrument on. But then I discover this setting applies to all the media types! So I have to painstakingly switch the column headings back if I go to a media type where I do care about the key or the tempo. This is very inconvenient.
On the VST effects list, if I’m browsing through them and I click on one, I get a seemingly empty page. What is this for? How can I use it?
I find this whole section of the UI incredibly awkward to work with, and one of the few areas that is a big step back from the other DAW I came from. Am I missing some tricks?
