Studio Pro to Cubase Help

Hello Friends,

I have recently made the transition to Cubase from Studio Pro, mainly because I’m very interested in orchestral composition and would love to follow along and take some Thinkspace courses. That being said, I am finding that reverb settings I previously had in Studio Pro via Inspirata Professional sound completely different when used in Cubase, even though the settings are exactly the same in both DAWs. Is any experienced user able to assist?

Let me preface this with a few things:

  1. Please mind my awful singing and Spanish pronounciation. These are created out of necessity for my Spanish choir to learn.
  2. I am very much a beginner to recording in a DAW this way and mixing with EQ, reverb, and compression.

Below is an image of the Inspirata Professional settings I’m using from this song, which was created in Studio Pro: Stream O Come and Mourn & Ven y Llora by GloriaDeo | Listen online for free on SoundCloud . I’ve attached a sample Cubase project where the settings are the same but sound completely different.

Also, I’m relatively happy with the way the mix sounds in the recording above, but I am a total beginner and newbie at this and would welcome any feedback.

I don’t have that particular plugin, so I can only share some general thoughts.
The sound should generally be the same. Maybe in Studio Pro you have the signal running through some other plugin that is not present in the Cubase project? Or the other way round - you have a plugin inserted in the signal path in Cubase that wasn’t there in Studio Pro. Maybe in Cubase’s Control Room, in case you use that.

Difficult to say without having access to the plugin or the Studio One session, but i noticed in the Cubase project that you have changed fader positions on some channels, maybe that has something to do with it.

Else, as Johnny wrote, the presets from the plugin should be the same. Did you load the preset from the internal preset browser?

A relatively easy test would be to create a new empty project in each DAW, then load the audio on one channel, add the reverb and load the preset (or maybe even try several presets). I would expect that to sound the same (except maybe influences from pan law settings).

Your sends are set very high to those reverb channels, it could be that perhaps? I don’t know what level they are set in your studio pro project, but make sure you have those match up.

i.e. this one is +3.81:

It’s subjective, of course, but i’ll usually have sends much lower than that. And very rarely would go into the positive values.

Try setting those sends to about -20 and see how that sounds and then increase the ones that require more. Your reverb plugin is 100% mix which is correct.
