Stuttering when audio is warped

So I purchased Cubase 15, however, There are bugs especially with the audio engine, its stuttering (yes I know all about buffers) and becomes unusable, also latest up date plugins can crash it, freeze it, and suddenly out of nowhere more stuttering. Also My Nectar controller no longer works (known bug) .

Now I know its Cubase because when I go back to cubase 14, no issues at all, runs like before. so until a new bug update comes out, I wasted my money. We are a pro production company and so we need our systems to run, thankfully I can go back to 14.

there seems to be reports out the about a new runtime for Macs that is causing issues from what iv read. it would be great if Steinberg could let us know if this is known and goign to be fixed, I mean running more than 10 tracks on project should be easily handled on a Mac Pro surely.

I can accept small bugs but complete failure with the audio interface, buffers stutters freezing, asio guard issues? no sorry not acceptable.

Hi,

So, have you tried to increase the Buffer Size, please? If you are on Windows, could you test your system by using LatencyMon utility, please?

Provide the *.dmp/ips file(s), please.

Mac: macOS Console utility > Crash Reports (or ~user/Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports).
Win: %userprofile%/Documents/Steinberg/Crash Dumps

I’m on Win 11 and Cubase 15 is stuttering on my system and it didn’t before. Only happens when audio parts are warped, time stretched and/or transposed, but the moment I bounce those processes the stuttering stops, plays smooth. This happens whether I have lots of fx and synths actively working, or zero plugins. Changing the buffer has no effect in my situation. Maybe an issue with Elastique algorithms? There are many issues with this release that should never have passed testing. Very annoying. 15 was not ready for prime time

HI there

I am not a new user by any means, but a professional production company, so yes increased buffer size, reduced and increased Asio guard load, made sure all background processes from other apps on studio computer not running, cleared caches, restarted audio interface, changed audio file settings from 441 to 48, different bit rates, tried everything.

The issue is random. 1

start tracking at buffer 256 for low latency no problem,

2 hits about ten tracks starts to kick up and the process meter jumps way up

  1. freeze midi tracks (drops a little)
  2. have to increase buffer size - latency gets worse obviously for midi input.
  3. come to mix - start adding basic plugins (EQ and Compressor per track and some small bus processing) runs smooth and then…
  4. add 1 more plugin (and this can be any plugin so its not a specific plugin issue) stuttering everywhere, and it seems to be somethign with the way the meters are drawing in the mix window?
  5. increase buffer size to 1024 stutters freezing, un playable
  6. increase to 2048 - worse
  7. turn off last plugin loaded - makes no difference
  8. go in and turn meter from 40 db to 20db for slower redraw - no difference.
  9. shut down cubase 15 completely
  10. restart - plays fine with most recent buffer change then continue mix -
  11. add another plugin and entire thing starts again doing the same stuff as before
  12. THEN : it tells me to freeze tracks I have already frozen ???

so why is it not seeing already frozen tracks as frozen?

As you can see from above we have done our testing with various set ups.

Today I am going to open last nights session in cubase 14 and see how it responds and I will report back into this thread

thanks for your help (once I get a crash report I will send it through as well.

cheers

UPDATE:

Just opened last nights session in Cubase 14.

Ran perfectly upon opening. so I slammed a bunch of plugins across every track one at a time and not a blip, I lowered the buffer to 512 and it still worked fine.

so in essence this is defiantly a cubase 15 issue.

Not only that I then opened other programs on the Mac, safari, messenger, slack and a couple of others - made no difference at all.

Cubase 14 ran super smoothly, the metering was fast and accurate and the sound was great.

I will try and find a crash file or log files for you happily but I cant use cubase 15 for production work so it may have to wait until I ahve some down time.

thanks again

Back to cubase 14 we go.

cheers
