Sudden FW performance issue with onscreen video - any tips?

Thank you, I tried the ACPI advice, no luck. I noticed I have two instances on my list though - maybe an issue? (I think my notebook somehow accepts two batteries in theory though).

I’m no the legacy fw driver for Win7 already, others didn’t work, and I also tried a pmcmia adapter with a ricoh or nec though, far worse performance.
Really stumped. I guess 2012 will need to see a new system coming, but I prefer a mobile setup and the list on notebooks with FW and esp. a TI chip plus the features I would like it to have… pretty short for now.

I might give N4 a go when I get back, but so far N5.5 has been fine for me with no real reason to go back yet.

Just saw - under system performance I re-tested and the windows performance for the aero-graphics dropped from 4,1 to 2,2 - something HAS screwed up the gfx performance!

OK the system Windows-performance rating issue was due to powersaving option.

BUT I have just tested: Only video and one audio file in N5.5 stutters badly. Same setup, same video and audio track in N4 runs smooth as butter.

So somehow the N5.5 video engine has been screwed or doesn’t behave like it used to. Any ideas what could be causing this? Desperate for a solution before the next Nuendo job comes up!

Andrew: I have the same setup as you (as you know) and now same/similar problem. I used to have a big problem with video playback on 5.5 and 5.1. But thanks to you it was solved.
Now video and audio playback works smooth with N5.1.
But with N5.5 I have clean audio PB until I open video screen (F8). Audio starts to jump and soon audio PB stops. No audio output and no metering on audiotracks.
After reseting VST audio system audio is back, stuttering again and then audio/metering disappears. It seems that audio PB tries to sync to video but fails resulting no audio PB what so ever…
Without audio, video runs smooth on N5.5?! Add only one audio track and insert audio to that track --> first stuttering , then no audio. Video PB still smooth…

I can use N5.1 for movie work but this is not good…

So I agree with Andrew, something is screwed in Nuendo 5.5 video playback. It might be system related as it happens on two similar systems, but it is only with N5.5. 5.1 works fine. What was changed from 5.1.–> to 5.5. concerning video engine? And can it be fixed???

Do you have another firewire audio interface by any chance?
If you had any you could try to narrow the cause down to the specific hardware or firewire in general.

Can you please explain your problems?

here is another try: Can you please check if the symptom is dependent to 32-bit plug-ins running in 64-bit Nuendo?
If you have 32-bit plug-ins running, please unload them and see if the problem remains. It is possible that we are seeing a conflict between the VST-Bridge and the video engine.

Just saw now that you are looking into this - GREAT!

As for 64 - I’m on 32bit also.
Any idea if 5.5.5 will solve this?

@Tumppi, what Fireface driver and firmware version are you on? I’m still pretty “old” as I have a model with headphone clicking on new firmware that would need a modification to fix.

I am also on the legacy FW driver in Win7. What is your current “FF800-path”?

This issues has just spoilt my last recording session. Luckily only voice-overs with short snippets. Still dropouts in the recordings :frowning:

Any news on this? Why is the video window interfering with the firewire playback? N4 is fine. PT is fine. Weird…

It seems that removing the ACPI battery (or rather both of them) in the system panel / hardware has cleared the issue, though I still need to check with the session that brought up the issue.

Maybe worth a try for others - that and disabling wifi adapter.
