In the past I’ve always been able to move notes chromatically with the arrow keys while pressing Control–Option and was even doing so earlier today, but now it just won’t budge. The moving diatonically and by octave still work.
Is it control-option or shift-option?
For me it’s always been Control-Option.
- Have you changed the defaults?
- Have you tried shift-option + up/down arrow? (to see if it does anything)

including restarting the computer?
Even the best applications and operating systems can develop issues if left running for a very long time.
Yes I just came back to say that I did a restart of the computer and now it’s all working again as it ought.
