Hi! I had to move my studio where recording live drums will not work logistically. So, I updated and bought a new computer ( Ryzen 9 9950x, 64ram), e drum kit (TD 316) to trigger and Superior drummer 3. Thought this would be the best route not being able to record real drums. But, trying this the first time will the ekit triggering and a miced up marshall playing together there was lag after 3 measures with the click track from Nuendo. Using 64 buffer size and a new Gen 5 MOTU 828 and the usb generic mode from the TD 316 kit. What would be causing this?
Are you using the Motu asio driver and not a generic or steinberg driver? What is Cubase reporting as the expected latency? Do you have any plugins on the sd3 channel? Do you have any master buss plugins? From what you say you are using the module to send midi only and have not activated it as an audio interface?
A lot of times people have plugins on the master buss. If you do then these will introduce latency. Other than what I’ve mentioned the latency should be under 10ms. Another thought is, do you mean it plays ok but the recording is late? Maybe midi offset if something is not reporting correctly to Cubase.
Thanks in advance…I’m using the Motu gen 5 driver…input latency 2.3 output 2.1. I was using the generic mode on the Roland drum kit now I change that to the vendor mode. No plugins on sd channel and master bus. Constrain delay button is on. The recorded drum track is constantly ahead. I played the click track and to test it just hit a snare for 10 measures and its ahead…very frustrating! I blew alot of money to get this going.. not very happy. Any other ideas would be great.
So the midi is recording early meaning it’s actually early and not late? You don’t need vendor mode to run midi. That just allows you to use the module as an audio interface. Even if latency was really bad the midi recording should be ok. It’s the audio engine that causes latency (notes sound after hit) and not midi. Does the Motu have midi sockets? Have you tried a midi cable from the module to the Motu and checked to see if it’s the same? What if you use sd3 in standalone mode and re I’d midi into sd3, does it still do it?
