Supported Video Formats in Cubase

Hello,

can somebody explain, please, what’s the right video format for cubase’?

I read the specifications and I feel like every time there’s a different way to make this DAW work with videos. I converted to mp4, to apple prores, 1080p, 720p, nothing works. Basically, when I import it nothing happens. I managed to make it work one time but I can’t recall what I did.

The video is a quicktime screen recording, 2064 × 624. I used shutter encoder with these settings (see screenshot), with both .mp4 and apple prores. Please someone help me figure out what I’m supposed to do. Running on MacOS Venture 13.7.8, Cubase 12.

You’re not showing the left hand side of shutter encoder. The place that shows which codec you selected.

There’s a walkthrough in my last Nuendo Explained video (on the Steinberg Nuendo channel), in case it helps.

it was h.264.

I used another app, “compress”, and it worked for that screen recording. today, I tried to convert another screen recording downloaded from whatsapp and it didn’t work.

this DAW is highly unstable. I’ll have a look at that tutorial but I can’t believe it’s this complicated to import a video

Unstable?

It’s not complicated. It’s one click.

Anyway. Good luck getting it sorted.

except that one click does not work.

look, I’ve been using cubase for almost 20 years. I’ve seen bugs and glitches of any kinds, and this is a particularly annoying one. never had these issues while importing a video on Pro Tools.

I’ll figure it out. thanks for the support

Ok. :+1:

Sometimes it’s an incompatible GPU. I know, sounds daft.
But…
An this is my personal experience:

I used to have an AMD 6700 XT. Cubase 13 played most videos just fine.
Then I switched it for an AMD 7900 XTX. Cubase 13, then 14 and now my demo of 15 - don’t.

One time I installed VEGAS 20 (I’m using 21) for an older project, and Cubase 14 suddenly started playing videos. No other change to the system.

Cubase 12 plays video just fine on the 6700 and now with the 7900.

Go figure.

I also know the OP is MacOS and I’m using Windows.

Have you checked this?
