Suppress playback of staccatissimo

I have some notes marked staccatissimo which I would like to suppress the playback of this articulation and just let it follows the previously on-going playing technique, because the associated staccatissimo sound is unnatural at that passage. However, I don’t want to disable the switch of the staccatissimo sound in expression map, as I still need the sounds in other staccatissimo notes. The articulation mark is also correct if it is played by human instead.

How to make it possible?

Maybe you could create the staccatissimo as a Playing technique instead.

I just gave it a try, but it seems it is too difficult for me to create that.

Select type Glyph, then click the pencil. Then click the trash can to delete the text. Finally, select articulation under range and add the staccatissimo.

My first thought, but wouldn’t 2 be needed for above/below note and then how would Dorico know which one to choose?

Here’s a file with the stacc. With the file open, find the staccatissimo under playing techniques, and click the star icon at the lower left to save it as default. Reload your own file.

staccatissimo.dorico (635.4 KB)

Yes, as I did in the file I posted.

Ah yes, “Different above and below” - forgot about that.

Thanks! How to leave a little vertical spacing between the articulation and the note?

I think you might have to move them in Engrave mode with alt/opt + arrows.

Jesper

You can edit them under Library->Engraving Options->Playing Techniques, but that will apply to other playing techniques as well if you have any.

Jesper

Can’t you edit the “y offset” of the glyph instead – if, of course one wants to do this for every instance?

I think the y-offset is only for the relation between glyphs when you have more than one.

Jesper

Okay. I’ll have to play with that! I’ve only made a few for special markings that I regularly use but haven’t paid that much attention to it. Could be that I have been pushing around my glyphs (in the edit screen) for nothing. I’ll have to see what happens with adding
things together!

[Edit] Yep! It appears that’s only for positioning in the design phase. However, I can add a small element under my playing tech, change that element’s color to white, which makes my mark look higher! (Don’t know why I would want to do that, though!)

For your information, I also apply this technique to staccato. In case there are both accent and staccato marking, I have to adjust vertical position of both accent and staccato of every concerned note in Engrave mode…

Yes, might be, but I’m not 100% sure, so try and let me know.
