Sustain Pedal

Either the manual is unclear, or else I have failed to find the right section.

There must be an easy way to click to indicate piano pedal down, piano pedal up (retake), piano pedal up (end). I can’t figure this out.

Help says type ped in Playing Techniques popover to turn it on and that works. I can drag the line to make it longer or shorter, but don’t know how to mark the retakes. Help says to use the ^ key, but that doesn’t seem to do anything.

Thoughts?

I am sure this is simple and that I just don’t get it.

When you have the pedal line, click a note somewhere in the middle and use the ^ in playing techniques (right under the ped symbol).

Are you specifically desiring the sostenuto pedal or the sustain pedal? Sostenuto only maintains keys that are depressed just prior to the pedal (subsequent keys are not held), whereas Sustain holds everything. Sostenuto can be added in the key editor window using CC#66. If you just have the Ped marking notated, it will trigger the Sustain pedal (CC#64).

Note the CC#64 here in a recent work of mine. But all I had to do was hit Shift-T and then type in Ped.

But it’s also easy to change to sostenuto: either change to CC#66 in the key editor, or use the contextual menu when clicking on the Ped marking:

I only just noticed the contextual menu-I love it. While I don’t specify pedal markings generally in my own music, I sometimes do and this would have saved me time in an earlier work created in Finale!

You can select a note (or multiple notes) then do right-click>pedal lines>add retake

@dtoub I meant sustain and not sostenuto. I apologize: my brain was elsewhere. That said, your reply is extremely helpful. Thanks.
