Swing Issue

Piece is swung. Halfway thru bar 97 i want straight, But this only takes effect next bar (98). How can I solve this? ty

You could enter the last four quavers of swing as 2:3 tuplets (EDIT 2:2) and then hide any tuplet indications. I know it’s not the point you’re asking about but does it sound correct?

I could? but I want 4 eights

Hi @Avremi_Gourarie you could add a dashed barline (or break the bar in two, with two pick-ups bars and hidden time signature):

If you don’t want to se a dashed barline, you could first set a dashed barline, and then (when Dorico created the pickup bar) apply on top of the dashed barline a Tick bar line and set its Out value to -1 in Properties panel, to make it invisible.

Yes. If you remove the tuplet number/bracket then they will appear to be four 8ths.

Ty. amazing. could I hide the dashed bar?

I entered this in my previous post after the fact  :

Ty, that works

Only issue with this method. All bars of whole note rests are now 2 half note rests (cos it splits the bar)

I hope Dorico can adress this in future updates

Have you tried my method yet?

Yes, it doesn’t seem appropriate that there is a swing indication within a bar but it doesn’t change until the next.

Yes, I noticed this*. But probably you want to write some Straight text there, so the musicians know where exactly the feel change is happening, so two rests or even a dashed barline aren’t to bad, to be able to show the change of feel on the third beat (with some System text as “Straight again”)?

(*) This is the expected behaviour currently, by the way:

trying 2:3 . Buts it’s 4/4. can you demonstrate?

I think you may be right a ‘tick’ barline not such a bad idea/ ty

Sorry, you’re right :man_facepalming:

Does a 2:2 tuplet work?

Alas, not

What happens if you select the last four quavers of swing and set the properties Playback start offset to zero and Playback end offset to -12? When I do this, these quavers playback without swing.
