Swing - PLEASE!

Hi all you nice people at Dorico;

Could you please (pretty please) give us symbol with 2 quavers = triplet crochet & quaver to indicate swing? It just looks so much classier and - well, ‘old school’, - just like me.

I’ve tried various ways of making it happen by following a host of instructions but with no real success. It should be real easy - just as it was in - ssshhhh ‘Sibelius’. Just little things like that can really make a huge difference - to me, anyway. Thanks.

Use Shift+x

copy/paste this symbol: 

Set text font to Finale Ash

You may want to change the foint size to 20 points or so.

This question has been asked many times and the answer is always the same: create the markings as System Text using either the Metrico or MusGlyphs font. What ‘host of instructions’ have you found, and what about them didn’t work?

Here’s another way to do it:

They all reiterate what you just said - and I haven’t got a clue what you mean by any of it. The problem is you talk in a way that assumes a level of knowledge that I, and many others, don’t have.

Thanks for this. I will try and follow it and hopefully get it this time. I’ll let you know. Thanks again.

  1. Download the free font MusGlyphs
  2. Install it on your computer (with Dorico closed completely)
  3. Open Dorico, select the spot you want (probably the first beat), and press Shift-X
  4. Select MusGlyphs as the font
  5. Type ee=qe3
  6. Voila

Thank you. Trying it now.

And it’s Alt/Opt-Shift-X for System Text, which makes it show up in all the parts like a tempo marking.

Thanks!
Do you have a suggestion for how to insert accordion register symbols as well?

Accordion registration marks are in the SMuFL specification (and therefore in Bravura) in the range U+E8A0–U+E8DF. But to make use of them you’ll have to create custom playing techniques. Luckily you should only need to do this once, click the star to save them as a default for any future projects.

(I have adopted a standardised naming scheme: the top row here is acc001, acc010, acc011 and acc020 in the Shift-P popover.)
