Swing timing messes up assignment of articulations

There seems to be a bug where when using swing timing, the articulation of one note can “spill out” to other notes.

I have created this example document to reproduce and test; it has 3 times the same phrase, with the middle one having an additional staccato:

Important: The document uses “Light swing 8ths” and is using Note Performer.

  1. The first phrase plays back correctly.

  2. In the second phrase with the staccato, the long note at the end is way too short.

  3. The third phrase, although not having a staccato, plays back with the last note being too short.

  4. Even when you start playback at the start of the last phrase, the last note will be too short. This makes me think that this is not a Note Performer thing (as it would not even know about the staccate in bar 4) but a Dorico thing.

  5. The piano roll in Play mode only shows playing techniques “natural” and “legato” being used. No “staccato” anywhere, so I can just guess that Dorico is sending some wrong information to Note Performer after the staccato note in bar 4.

Here is the Dorico file:

articulation-in-swing-spills.dorico (1.3 MB)

And here is the way it sounds:

(Just to clarify: I’m not seeking workarounds; this is just for the developers or whoever might want to investigate the problem.)

This is a known problem that I thought had been fixed in the latest update. There is a workaround mentioned in a thread - I’d look it up but am about to leave for the airport…

Oh - if it’s already known then I’m sorry for bringing it up again. I did some searching before putting it out here, but maybe didn’t use the right search terms.

(I’m using the latest version of Dorico, though…)

Apologies! I recall corresponding with a member of the team but can’t find the message :frowning: It would be disappointing if this issue has not been fixed, as a staccato marking on the last note of a slur in swing tone causes significant playback issues. One solution is to add the Ord. playback technique before the affected note. I hope this helps…
