Symbol position

When I make a sharp sign using SGV file, the y-axis is wrong. Can I adjust the y-axis coordinates myself in engraving mode?

Hi William, you’ve already started a thread about this topic, here:

Please don’t open new threads about the same issue.

You were asked in the other thread to provide more information about why you want to create accidentals using SVGs rather than Dorico’s native accidental-showing capabilities. What is it you’re trying to achieve that you can’t achieve using Dorico’s existing tools?

Thank you,A friend shared the svg file with me and I thought the symbol was so beautiful that I wanted to use it in my own music.

And how are you adding this accidental into the music? Can you share a project where you’ve set this up? Screenshots only tell us so much.

Thanks!

Hey,

I think I’ve been able to solve the issue! The problem comes from how Dorico centers glyphs versus how it centers graphics. For glyphs, there seems to be some sort of box that is calculated, and Dorico uses its center to ensure alignment with the noteheads. However, for graphics, alignment happens from the bottom. You can observe this behavior if you go to Engrave mode and, in the properties of the note with your accidental, progressively change the accidental scale. You’ll see that the bottom remains stable, and resizing happens from there, not from the center.

To use your SVG so that it behaves like a glyph, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Add an Empty Glyph: Before adding your SVG to the symbol editor, include an empty glyph. For example, you can use the one from the noteheads category ( the sixth one). This creates a glyph with no width and no visible content, but it will act as an attachment guide for your SVG.

  2. Add Your Accidental Graphics: After adding the empty glyph, include your accidental graphic.

  3. Set Attachments: In the attachment settings:

    • Set attachment from to bottom right.
    • Set attachment to to middle left.

Now your SVG should work as expected!

Let me know if you need more precise instructions or additional help!
