Sync Cubase tempo (as slave) to external sequencer (master)

I have invested a lot in hardware lately and a Korg SQ64 sequencer for getting short ideas down, instead of bringing my MBP down to my studio and fire up Cubase every time.
This is a great setup, because after I flick the first on/off switch on my gear it takes about four seconds before I am ready to play and record.

Thus all my external gear is synced to the SQ64 tempo whenever I am DAWless.

But what I really would like to do is also sync Cubase to the SQ64 so if I launch Cubase to play a VST, the VST arp (or drum track for that matter) is synced to the SQ64’s tempo.

I searched the Cubase manual but as far as I can tell it mostly focuses on syncing external gear to Cubase.

How would I go the other way around?

If I’m not mistaken, Cubase can only sync to time code, not MIDI Clock. I’m assuming you’ve read this chapter?

I have indeed read it first, but from what I (and Google) can tell MIDI clock used to work on older versions of Cubase so I had to ask.

I don’t remember Cubase ever being able to sync to MIDI Clock, but I could be wrong. What version would that have been? Do you have any sources?

It was a SOS article from 2004, so pretty old version. That was SX, I guess?

This one, I assume:

There is no mention in that article that Cubase can sync to MIDI Clock. It does talk about syncing Cubase to various Time Code formats.

Back in the day (1980’s, Atari?) when Cubase was a MIDI sequencer, it used to be possible to be clocked externally. Now, with audio, Cubase must always be the master MIDI clock.
