Syncing Cubase With Yamaha XS Synth Sampler

Hi I need help knowing how to get Cubase and the Yamaha Synth to sync together .
What settings do I need to have in Device Connections ?
to record in MIDI and Audio
Setup:
MacBook Pro
Yamaha Motif XS 8 Synth Sampler
Cubase 8.5
Yamaha is connected to the Mac via Firewire 800 to 400 pin to Thunderbolt port on Macbook Pro

I imagine its all simple but I just haven’t gotten it yet ?

Hi,

If you are not going to use Yamahas’ arpeggios, you don’t have to sync it. Use the USB cable to connect it.
