I’m hoping this is a notation option I can’t find.
I’m working on a chart in 6/8. When I enter this syncopated figure it is beaming it this way:
I want the figure (by default) to look like this:
Yes, I know how to change it using Forced Durations. But I’d like to set the second way to be the default way of notating that rhythm. I can’t seem to find an option in the various libraries to set this. Is there an option for this?
Thanks.
I don’t think this is a notation option available to change.
You can sort of get around this by specifying the beat grouping when entering the time signature - [6]/8 (telling Dorico to group all six 8th notes together) - and then manually splitting the beaming at the half bar.
The result of which is highlighted below:
I say “sort of” because this will also mess with all the other beaming and rest groupings that you might prefer, as you can see…
Or a local (hidden) 3/8:3/8 would give directly the right beaming for those bars (but not for dotted halves or groups of 6 16ths…)
I agree. A Minimize Ties option would be a good idea. Of course, you can just turn on Force Durations for as long as you want if you want this style (which I also would prefer in this case) as you write.
