hello peeps, so… I’m 62, (years old)… kinda gettin my way around cubase, just scratching the surface really… so what I really wanna know is… how to use synth v in cubase for complete dummies’? so, one must remember , 1st… be kind, second wtf is a vst ? i thought it was an instrument {which I kinda get)… but how is synth v an instrument… anyroadha… I’m really impressed with synth v and Ive had some success using it as a stand alone piece of kit but would would like to know what are the benefits of using it “inside” cubase? exactly how to do this? anyone out there willing to help a grump old man ?
any help or advice that i can understand will be very much appreciated , thanks in advance (TIA lol) … 62 remmember!.. john
Not at my studio right now but essentially…
Add Synth-V VST as an instrument using the VSTi tab in the VSTi/Media/CR/Meter window on the right of the Track window. This will create an instrument track in the mixer and track window.
Work on notes/lyrics in Synth-V’s gui window.
When you hit play in Cubase, Synth-V will chase the playback head so the vocal is aligned properly in the song.
I think you can import MIDI or play MIDI into Synth-V but have not tried this (not 100% sure). Since you need notes plus lyrics for Synth-V, vocal work is done entirely in Synth-V and is just synced to Cubase playback. I usually set up a loop in Cubase which includes the vocal phrase I’m working on and tweak it inside the Synth-V window.
You can have multiple voices inside Synth-V, etc., just like it works standalone.
I’m no expert by any means and certainly have explored only a small part, but I do think Synth-V is very cool.
Oh and a VST is simply a Cubase plugin. An EQ, delay, reverb are examples of a VST. A synth is usually referred to as VSTi but some use the VST term for instruments as well. VST simply refers to the Steinberg plugin standard.
Thanks for your help with this… I was trying to use an existing vocal track by somehow transferring it straight into synth v inside cubase ( which Ive been able to do into standalone synth v project)… I was really impressed with synth v extracting the notes / lyrics etc and hearing my vocal sung by solaria… ( still needs a bit of work but should sound great when I’ve got to grips with it) just would be a whole lot easier if I could do it inside cubase instead of constantly mixing down and bouncing files around… thanks again, and if you have anymore tips they will be much appreciated.
Select the part with vocals.
Above the arrangement window, select Synth V Ara Plugin in the Extension drop-down menu.
