System text on every staff in the score

I need to put a comma as a caesura.
I don’t want the double line caesura sign.
I put a comma as system text instead.
How can I have this system text comma on all staves in the score ?

/joakim

Not a system text, use a Pause.

Select the last notes of all staves , then press SHIFT H and ,.

Alternatively assign shortcuts to Paste Special > Duplicate to Staff Above / Below – you should do that anyway – then attach the pause to the quintuplet and duplicate it with the shortcut(s).

hm…
perfect.
[why can’t this be system text? since everyone must have it…]
but this works !
thank you,
joakim

It can be a system text (with ALT SHIFT X), but the dedicated function is a pause.

exactly. but like the caesuras shouldn’t this comma be a ‘caesura class’. that shows everywhere?
Or, is it possible to put the comma in the caesura class group ?

joakim

You can replace one of the unused caesuras in Library > Music Symbols with the comma.

joakim, I am not 100% sure about this.
If you think of a choir setting, where these commas are used as breathing marks: in polyphonic music not every voice can always breathe at the same time - only in a homophonic setting.

yes… could be.
and depends on the composer.
that’s why it should be good to add signs in the caesura class.
I’ve had a lot of composers using the comma as a brief fermat… that must be on all staves…
ok,
this works

ah!? you mean really - the glyph ?

Much easier to put it in the top staff, then use Duplicate to Staff Below. I’ve set it to Ctrl-Opt-M. I also use it for dynamics often.

Yes, I do, that’s AFAIK the only way to add a custom caesura.

how do you get the glyph of the comma ? I can’t copy… hm

It’s a SMuFL glyph in the category “Holds and pauses”

I find it but can’t copy…
I’ll look for a video…

got it!
thank you for this !
joakim

oh well, these ones you can’t replace in engrave mode…! or ?
now it’s crossing the line on the staff…

Move the comma in Music Symbols to the position you like.

doesn’t change in write nor engrave…
does not change.

Caesuras are positioned in the staff, so even if you replace the symbol, it too will be positioned in the staff. Dan’s original advice (to quickly copy and paste the comma to the remaining staves in the system) is, I think, the right way to proceed (not least because you’re then working with the way the software is designed, rather than against it).

Commas function is player dependent, caesuras are global, that’s the difference.
Engrave mode always lets you move objects, and fine-tuning.
