Finale immigrant here. From what I’ve read, there is no way to enter right hand fingering in tablature like there is in notation. Is there a work-around?
Hello @andray , welcome to the forum!
A work around would be to create a text style identical to the one used by the fingering pop-over and insert it as a normal text. I don’t know if this is the most efficient though.
Out of curiosity: I’ve never seen RH/LH fingering in a published tablature. The only exception I saw is in the RGA methods where they use a circled number to represent the LH fingering under the TAB staff. Where did you find the notation you are looking for?
Well, there are several examples if you search for images of banjo tablature. It’s also used in guitar notation when the standard notation is not included. I tried including links but that’s evidently forbidden. sigh
BTW, would I use the same work-around for indicating hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides?
Thanks
But it’s not permanent. Welcome to the forum @andray ; here is how the Discourse trust system works.
@andray, allow me to add my welcome to the forum. Where do you normally want the fingering to appear? Do you normally indicate finger numbers, or letters like PIMA?
Right now I’m arranging banjo tunes and I use i, m, and t but mostly t when the RH fingering is unusual. I put them on the bottom of the staff. The tab pretty much takes care of the LH although occasionally I use numbers if there is a need. Those I put above the fret number.
I also put h for hammer-on, p for pull-off under the slurs. And sl for slides.
Thanks
Ray, I think the simplest way to get the appearance you are looking for in Dorico at the moment would be to use lyrics to add the right-hand fingering. You can select the first note in the tablature, type Shift+L to open the lyrics popover, and then enter each fingering in turn, hitting Space after each one.
