Tacet in the middle of the part

Hi,

Is there a way to indicate Tacet over empty measures or, preferably, over a multirest section in a part where the instrument is not playing? For example, the piano is not playing in sections A and A1 and starts playing in the Bridge.

Thank you!

Assuming this is some part within a flow, then no: you’d just display the multibar rest, which is itself an indication not to play. :grinning:

But what about when I have chord changes in the part just for the reference and wam to make sure the player not to play. Please see the screenshot.

And what is that number 1 there? Where did it come from? What does it mean?

Thank you!

I don’t know much about chords, but I believe you can set a Chord Symbol Region to hide them.

There is an Engraving Option , under Rests, for whether single bars show a count or not.

(Presumably the count is reset by the chords.)

If the piano frequently has long rests, one solution might be to edit the piano’s instrument definition so that it’s not a “rhythm section instrument.”

Then you’ll need to manually create chord symbol regions for those places where you do want them in the piano part, but you’ll automatically get proper multi measure rests.

If there aren’t many long rests, instead try hiding the chord symbols in the piano part and see if that allows the multi measure rest to appear in the part.

Thank you! However, I would like a piano player to see the changes while Tacet.

Well, the only way for the chord symbols to show is to keep individual measures of rests (after all, tacet is simply “rests-on-steroids” — i.e., resting for an entire movement, song, etc.).

So it seems that you’ll adjust things as per Ben’s suggestion to get the generic bar rests throughout.
