TACET parts while instrument appears in full score

For musical theatre and commercial scores, it is often essential to display instruments in a full score, even when they are TACET. Has anyone determined a convenient way to do this? Posts from 2022 and 2024 indicate that it is impossible natively.

This is the desired look of the score. Currently, the only way to generate a TACET part that I’m aware of is to remove the player from the flow in question. If there is a then a layout with that player assigned, that layout will generate a TACET part. This results in the player being removed from the score. Creating dummy players is not practical at this scale. I’m all ears for creative solutions! So far I’ve read that people have been creating graphics frames to cover up the music frames in parts intended to be TACET, but this seems very innefficient.

Is this what you’re trying to do?

To achieve it, I created a second (fake) Flow 2. It contains no music, the oboe player is removed from that flow, and that flow appears only in the oboe layout — so the Tacet shows up.

For the real Flow 2 (the one with music), it contains all instruments, but is removed from the oboe layout.

This is brilliant, thank you! A very clever work around.

It is not a workaround. It is a feature.

Thanks for the insight, Janus!
