Cubase 12 Artist MacBook Air M1 user updated to Tahoe without thinking now I can’t record anything. I am seriously thinking of dropping Cubase. Yes, it was foolish to update but it’s been a while that this problem has existed and still there is no fix. Frustrated!!
Hi,
Could you be more specific, please?
What happens, if you start Cubase? Do you see the Hub? Can you Create project or Open one? Do the tracks appear? Can you playback the project? Do you try to record Audio or MIDI? What happens, if you try so (any message or no signal/data comes in)? Did you double-check the audio/MIDI Inputs?
Make sure Cubase has enabled Mic in the System Preferences, please.
Open macOS System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Microphone. Enable Cubase here.
Thank you for your interest! I can record a track. However, when I add a second track the computer freezes and I get the spinning ball of death. It never stops, for hours until I exit Cubase and restart. Over and over this happens.
Hi,
What kind of tracks are you talking about (Audio, MIDI, Instrument)?
Do you have the latest Cubase 12 update installed?
Audio, guitar through mic but also guitar through line 2
Hi,
Do you have the latest Cubase 12 update installed?
What kind of Audio Device do you use? Do you have the latest driver installed?
Do you start Cubase in the native mode or in Rosetta?
Btw, Cubase 12 is officially compatible with macOS 11-14 only.
Yes latest Cubase update
Updating drivers on presonus audiobox iTwo
Native (I think)
Updated drivers problem persists
The prospect of updating and paying for a more recent version of Cubase only to discover it still doesn’t work because of Tahoe is not enticing
For what it’s worth, I (reluctantly) updated to Tahoe about a month ago. No change in performance. No regrets. I have a Mac Studio M1 Max. I’m using Cubase 15 Pro and an RME interface.
Still Cubase 12?
Yes, Cubase 12.0.70 Rosetta 2 (I was wrong sorry!)
Happy for you. I’m still hoping.
That means no Tahoe compatibility.
Tahoe was introduced in 2025, two years after the last Cubase 12 version.
Yes, I aM all too aware of my mistake. However, it would seem that Cubase could address the issue!
Even if I upgrade there is no guarantee Cubase will function properly, right? It seems the Tahoe update has caused issues with even the most updated version of Cubase, right?
Correct - no “guarantees.” Cubase 15 is “officially compatible” now, but they note issues some users have with performance and a weird “Mission Control” fix (which is trivial, apparently). I’ve had no issues at all on either of my Studio M3 or MBP Max - but I run all native plugins and VST3 only. I would download the Cubase 15 trial first and test it. You may not like it, or it may not help you. In which case you may have to revert back to your earlier OS version.
Same here, thanks to my job and ADHD, I usually update day 1. Have had no trouble with both Cubase 14 and 15 since Tahoe was released. Even got a fancy new beta update for RME Totalmix that looks killer, and have been having the time of my life with my new TR-1000 connected to Cubase. But again some of us don’t use all the features that others might use and vice versa, so take that as you will.
Like @Thor.HOG all my plugins are native and VST3 as well and have been since the day I switched from an Intel to an M2 Pro.. Im shocked I actually have a brand new Absynth to play with too!
Thank you those are good ideas. I don’t have all native plugins so I guess that’s another variable. The free trial makes a lot of sense. Thank you everyone for your kind advice and direction!!
Hi,
Download Cubase 15 Trial and test it on your system, please.
