Tell me about what a script can do

Here’s what I have to do, over and over and over again: In every part, in Engrave mode, select each number above a multibar rest (click the first, then CMD-click the next, and the next and the next, etc.) and then adjust its position into the staff by either entering in the value in the properties panel or by using the arrow keys.

Is there any way to automate this with a script? It takes forever! And there’s no way to select-more only the numbers without also selecting the H-bar that surrounds it.

I’m afraid I don’t think this can be automated, no. Obviously what is really needed is further options for the placement of the bar count of the multi-bar rest.

Until native support is available, Keyboard Maestro (on Mac) may be able to assist with some of the work.

Hmmm. I’m not sure what Keyboard Maestro could do for this type of thing. Would you mind elaborating?

You can certainly streamline this bit by using ‘Select more’.

I assumed that you wanted to move the digits, e.g.

The selection cannot be automated (I guess), but the moving could, using a ‘hotkey’.

Yes, if several of these are in numerous parts, this will be tedious work even with K.M.
(I’m sure Daniel will have an innovative solution in the future.)

It doesn’t matter, even with the H-bars selected you can still set the bar count offset property.

Select the first multirest, ctrl-click the last one, then use shift-ctrl-A to add all the ones in between. Then change the bar count Y-offset.

You’re right of course, but I have bar ranges under each rest, and those get selected and moved with the numbers above. Is there any way to select only the total count number and not also the bar number ranges?

EDIT: I’m wrong! I was using the arrows, not the properties. That DOES work. Thank you! What a life saver.
