Tempo detecting reference track + applying - MIDI not following new grid?

Hi all

I have a fat rock song that been notated at 83bpm and to get more “feel” I have imported a reference drum track that I then have tempo detected in the project in order to apply to my midi and audio.
Oddly, the audio is following but no matter what I do the midi is “off the grid” and not adhering to the newly edited tempo track.
If I manually imput tempo changes WITHOUT tempo detecting the refernce track in the same project (IE opening a new project and detecting tempo there and copy pasting the tempo changes) then it works perfectly.
I suspect tempo detecting is doing something under the hood that is wrecking my midi sync.
Any tips?

Make sure, the MIDI track is set to the Musical time base, please.
