Part of the piece is in 3/4 with a dotted half= 1 beat as typed in the Tempo popover and shown in the metronome marking in the lower panel. I also reinput the meter are [3]/4. Yet the key editor is expressing the tempos in quarter notes. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks, @charles_piano I am not sure.
I am having trouble explaining my problem, because I am new at Dorico playback. I am trying to tweak the tempo and when I place the cursor against the tempo line it reads out in quarter notes instead of dotted half notes. Its hard to take a screen shot so I fabricated the way the cursor and number look in red:
In MIDI, a tempo is specified as the number of microseconds per quarter note. I believe that is why the tempo editor always uses a quarter note as the beat unit.
Thank you @johnkprice I hadn’t realized that. I just tried a test in 6/8, and as you said, the result reads in quarter notes.
Well, this is a fine kettle of fish.
