I am creating parts by duplicating a full score and then reducing staff size staves other than the one I want to focus on. The problem is that other than the upper staff, the tempi markings also change size, making them harder to read for the chosen player. Is there a way to have a reduced size staff without reduced tempo markings? Example here showing the oboe part with the reduced tempi markings in the reduced flute part.
Maybe you could also consider that tempo marks need to appear above the staff of the performer for readability. This is standard practice in chamber‑music scores when other instruments use reduced staves.
Otherwise, in your case, in the horn or bassoon part for example, the tempo marks — even at absolute size — will be placed very far from the notes.
Yes, I would ideally like that, but the normal formatting for WW Quintet is to have the barlines join all staves, which means that tempo markings on an internal staff are always colliding with the barlines.
