Tenuto and Staccato in Tie Chain

Hello Everyone,

I’m trying to write a tie chain with the first note stressed with a tenuto and the last one with a staccato. Dorico allows me to write either one or the other but not both, even though engraving options are set so that tenutos starts at the start of a chain and staccatos at its end. Any idea on how to solve this?

Thank you!

maybe use a slur

You can put the last note in a different voice and still use a tie.

(TBH when I see this it just looks like sloppy notation. The note cannot be played staccato, just shorter. So why not reduce the duration?)

Hi Janus, thanks for the comment. I tried using a different voice but I can’t seem to tie it…

I realise this is an odd way of notation; the duration is indeed short at the end, but I want it to be an intentional sharp cut-off, without articulation. I specify in the score that this staccato is not to be rearticulated and is for expressive purposes only.

Select the first note, ctrl-click the other note, then T to tie (you may need to flip notes/ties in Engrave and remove rests…)
