Hello. I’m a Dorico Pro 6 user. Is it possible to create a text box like the one in the photo in Dorico? Upon closer inspection, the “Lesson” text is broken off, and the upper right corner is broken off. Thank you.
Hi @Nohoodorico, it is possible but needs a little work.
Since I imagine you will need several lessons flows, I edited the Flow Heading, adding 7 text frames with 0 height or width, with activated border (0.1mm), and positioned as in your example):
Result:
Dorico file example:
custom flow title frames.dorico (1.3 MB)
Oh, it works!! If you don’t mind, could you provide a video explanation? I’m not a professional user, so I don’t really understand what I’m talking about just by opening the file. Sorry.
Hi @Nohoodorico, here a video that explains how to create lines in engrave mode: basically you set a text frame with a border and 0 height (for an horizontal line) or 0 width (for a vertical line):
But moving those created “lines” can be tricky: you need to switch between selecting the control points (to resize the frames) and deselecting the control points (to move the frames), using TAB and the arrow key, but when the frames are like lines it is difficult to see which control point is selected, and is little trial and error.
Instead you could just import my flow headings into your current project, using the Library Manager. Here a visual guide (follow the numbers):
That’s amazing. Thank you for the kind video explanation. I’ll try to follow along. Thank you so much.
In the text box, there are two lines above. Are you drawing the lines twice? Are you copying the first line you drew? Thank you.
@Nohoodorico
Yes I draw each “line” separately. I draw a total of 7 “lines”: 5 horizontal and 2 vertical.
But please don’t get in trouble: just import the Page Template Set (which includes the Flow Headings) as I suggested above.
I see. I understand. Thank you.
Hello. I followed the video you uploaded very well. Thank you. I have an additional question. I’d like to add a text box to Lesson 2. Do I create it in the blank space using Engrave/Insert Text Frame? Or can I create additional Flow Headings? Currently, the Lesson text box is created in Flow Headings. Thank you.
I’d create additional flow headings; it’s a more flexible structure if one needs to change anything later.
I’m not sure how to add a flow title. Could you elaborate if possible?
Hi @Nohoodorico, you can duplicate the flow heading, and create a new text frame inside it, with a token for flow other info…
Then use Flow Headings Overrides to assign that customised flow heading to flow 2.
The the text that you insert in your project info, will be displayed below the title of flow 2:
(You can of course edit the size of the text frame in the customised flow heading, and decide ion the text should be centred into the text frame, etc…)
Thank you for your quick and kind reply. I will try it. Thank you. ^^
If a red triangle appears on the right side of the page, does that mean I should never do this? Is it possible to do this without the red triangle? I’m curious, so I’m asking. Thank you.
The red triangle just indicates you have created a page override. All that means is that if you now change the underlying page template, those changes will not be reflected on the page. The page is effectively frozen.
So the order of events is important. First decide on the design of the template you want. Only then make any changes in Engrave that will override the template.
