Text is disappearing after I finish typing it

It’s late at night, and my eyes are bleary, but I still think this should work.

See where it says “{@flowTitle@}” and “{@page@}”.

As soon as I finish typing “{@flowTitle@}” and “{@page@}”, and click the mouse, I get this:

I’m sure I have the typing right, I’ve done this a lot and have never seen this result. This time the words I typed just disappear.
What’s up with that?

There are layout options for flow titles and page numbers to not be shown above flow headings. Is it possible that these are set, and that you’ve manually deleted a flow heading on that page, or that a flow heading exists but we can’t see it in the screenshot?
