Text sections with no underlying music -- how to

Hi everybody,

I know this topic has been referenced here before, but I wanted to ask for input about my specific situation. I have a cantata to engrave that has alternating spoken text and music – never spoken text at the same time as underlying music. The composer actually created entire separate rehearsal letters for the spoken text section. That got me to thinking … would using different flows work for this kind of layout? I mean, could I create a flow with no notes/music at all for the text sections? Not sure. Here’s a good example of how this piece works:

You can’t technically have a flow with no music at all. In this case though, you can just have one bar between D and E with a (square) fermata on it, and attach the text to the Speaker staff with Shift-X.

A piece I’m engraving right now does have flows with just dialogue, but by hiding everything but the staff lines, I think this is quite a stylish solution.

Oh thank you! That seems like it’s likely the best solution.
