For Cubase 12 I’m using an HP Intel Core ULTRA 7 Notebook with Windows 11 and its internal Realtek HD Audio sound card. Using the ASIO4ALL4 v.2.19 driver, the stereo audio output comes out of the PC Headphones, but it does not come out of the Speakers, even when removing the headphones jack. I’m sending you the relevant screenshots.
Studio → Studio Setup-> Audio System → ASIO Driver = ASIO4ALL v2:
I also have other DAWs installed on my new notebook, such as Samplitude Magix Studio, RIPX DAW PRO, Audacity, and Pro Tool First, and they all work perfectly. It’s frustrating not being able to fully utilize Cubase’s potential on the notebook and I waste a lot of time experimenting, even going so far as to completely uninstall the program, but it doesn’t solve the problem. I also own a Steinberg UR-22C Recording Pack that I could use as an external audio card, but I really appreciate the portability of the notebook.
To identify the problem, it might be helpful to know that I previously tried using Steinberg’s built-in ASIO driver, and the audio output came from my speakers, and not my headphones (even though the headphones jack was inserted). Here are the screenshots:
The options available in the last column (audio port) are “not connected,” “2nd output with SST1” and “2nd output with SST2”.
I did some testing, and the WDM devices exhibited erratic behavior and no longer activated (the red exclamation points appeared), and the audio output disappeared completely, including the headphones. I reset Cubase 12 to all default settings (if you’d like, I can tell you how).
After replacing the “Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver” with “ASIO4ALL v2”, all the PC’s peripherals reappeared, along with the following:
Studio → Studio Setup-> Audio System-> ASIO4LL v2:
Note: When selecting “2nd output with SST1-SST2”, the Stereo Headphone output is restored, while the Speaker output is absent, even when selecting “Audio output with SST1-SST2”.
OK, but I’m not very familiar with Cubase and with the forum and I don’t understand how to send you a test-sound on the Control Panel of ASIO4ALL . Could you please explain the procedure for obtaining the test and how to send it to you?
From my tests, I found:
“2nd output with SST1-SST2” is the Realtek HD stereo output of the headphones, which works properly;
“Audio output with SST1-SST2” should be the Realtek HD stereo output of the PC speakers, but it doesn’t work;
“Audio Mic input 1-2” should be the Realtek HD microphone input, integrated into the PC? If you select it, the stereo output of the hardphones also disappears;
“Audio Mic stereo input 1-2” should be the Realtek HD stereo microphone input, and I believe it works as above.
Note: The PC jack is the headphone output and also the external microphone input, like on smartphones.
With VLC Player, Audacity, Samplitude Magix Studio 2013, RIPX DAW PRO, etc., the stereo output of the Speakers and the stereo output of the Headphones of the PC work perfectly.
I’m sending the audio drivers and outputs for the following applications. With these selections, if I plug the Headphone jack into the PC, I get stereo output from the Headphones. If I remove the jack from the PC, I get stereo output from the PC Speakers.
I’ve done all the try: I’ll be giving up on the PC speakers!
I have installed Cubase 12 on another notebook HP Intel Core 5, and it works fine there.The only two differences I find are that I have Windows 10 instead of Windows 11 and that the stereo output from the PC jack is of the simple type (without integrated external microphone input): Cubase mysteries!!
Sure, the problem is that the “Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver” that comes with Cubase 12 works fine with Windows 10, but it doesn’t communicate properly with Windows 11. I tried using “ASIO4ALL v.2.19” and “Steinberg built-in ASIO Driver” designed for other Cubase devices/interfaces, but that didn’t solve the problem.
Note that Steinberg owns all three drivers mentioned and could easily update them.
I have been using Cubase for many years and it has never happened to me that an not updated but recent could not be activated with a strictly higher order Operating System as in this case.
I’d like to know:
if Cubase 15 Artist or Pro have problems with Windows 11 and with the Internal Realtek® Audio Card;
what ASIO driver is included with Cubase 15;
if it’s possible to use the Cubase 15 ASIO driver on Cubase 12 Artist (I don’t think so!).
