I imported the MIDI file exported from Dorico into Cubase.
The MIDI tracks contain CC1, CC11, and CC64 data, and all the events are Step events.
I extracted the CCs as Automations, and the result is faithful to the original CCs.
I saved the file and reopened it: now all the Automations are composed of points joined by Ramps.
How is this possible?
What can/should I do?
Did you import a standard midi file or a Dorico project file?
It’s a MIDI file exported from Dorico 6.2 and imported into Cubase 15.0.30.
I didn’t open a Dorico file directly because it doesn’t include KeySwitches and Dynamics, but only Notes and Layouts for the Score Editor. Conversely, MIDI includes Notes, KeySwitches, and CCs (Dynamics).
I compose in Dorico and define the audio in Cubase (I used to compose directly in Cubase with the Score Editor, and it was wonderful: all in one!).
Back to the problem: does the workflow between Dorico and Cubase report this bug? Or do I have to fix it in some way I’m not aware of?
If you don’t mind I would try to replicate the issue before an official report. Can you send me a midi file created in Dorico with these CC’s that will turn from step to ramp? If you can create something small, possibly without any notes.

I tested by starting a new workflow between Dorico and Cubase, and the result is the same.
I’m sending the Dorico 6.2 Test CC files, the MIDI Test CC file exported from Dorico, and the Cubase 15.0.30 Test CC.
Yeah, I think I start to see where the issue may lie. When you extract midi to automation you basically convert midi automation into VST automation. The latter one usually works with ramps only. The only way to have steps in there while using only one single event is to make it a Terminator.
The program doesn’t do that by itself though. Immediately after the conversion you can still see (and hear) the stepped automation but that is something that you cannot create manually by drawing in automation points, except when you terminate those points.
You wrote a good repro and I have the same behaviour on my system. I assume the Steinberg support will be happy to receive such a well written report on a design flaw.
You don’t need Dorico at all for this. It is enough to create a few Midi CC events as steps on an empty midi part. Then continue from step 5.
The manual workaround is to right click the automation lane’s track header, “select all events” and then switch their Terminator to Yes.
