Thanks Johnny_Moneto, I’ll try my very best.
I should explain some examples in a workflow, and with some pictures and accompanying description. This is a complex functionality, and this way may work for a better understanding.
So my first cubase issue with the snap point here is:
A tempo change moves &syncs an audio event always with the start point of the event, which is not the way it should behave, when there is a snap point available and set:
I have a reversed cymbal. snap point is set to the end, because this is the musically important location, here is how it looks in my editor:
and in the arrangement window, before a tempo change, it seems to be “locked” to beat 100, at least it snapped there:
but after a tempo change made in the tempo track shortly before the audio event, it looks like this:
The musical context is gone and there is no cymbal at beat 100 anymore. But the beginning of this audio event stays at the exact same position in the grid, which is simply wrong in this case.
And this is why I had set this snap point to a different and musically important position.
I would think here, as a good decision of design, it should be working like:
“It snapped there, in every case leave it snapped there, until the user decides different!”
This is only an example, but in every case, when the snap point is not the start of an audio event, this behavior of Cubase is the same and it is simply wrong in my opinion.
