The MADDENING System Track ... "R" Repeating ... "X" and dreaded 4/4(q 1+1+1+1) Signposts

Greetings Doriconians!

Where to begin!??!? First … I LOVE Dorico … It is THE BEST! ::::Hopefully this’ll stave off the Vampire Cabal to let em know I mean I no harm and hopefully <<<< that won’t hurt people’s feelings as often does here in Doricojia! ::::

Ok, the MADNESS! I want to simply COPY (via the System Track) while NOT copying the KEY SIGNATURE, NOR the TIME SIGNATURE, NOR the BARLINES, NOR the SYSTEM TEXT! I can’t seem to do this normally it appears.

When I select the System Track range, it copies everything including Key Sig., Time Sig., etc …. The TIME and KEY show as NOT selected, but, oh no, NOT true, because when I “R” it or paste it, the TIME, KEY, CLEF is SELECTED, …..

So, I “Cmd + Z” to undo (a FEW TIMES because ONCE is never enough apparently),

Them I lovingly RE-select the range of bars via the System Track, and

Cmd+touch/DE-select the TIME/KEY/THE ENTIRE WORLD, which SELECTS IT (turns ORANGE, which means it WAS NOT initially selected apparently).

Then, I once again “R”, and … you guessed it…. The TIME/KEY/EVERYTHING is pasted to the next couple of bars.

I’ll post the SCREEN SHOTS showing the madness (which I apparently can NOT whilst creating a said new topic).

Yes, I know … after pasting or “R”ing, I can select the superfluous TIME/KEY/EVERYTHING Signatures, but I’ll get the dreaded “X” and dreaded 4/4(q 1+1+1+1) Signposts and all the errors that wreak havoc on the piece of music down the line.

Yes, I have also tried to COPY the stop a few bars at a time, but, for some reason, Dorico manages to copy the BARLINES (the actual BARLINES <<<< why in the WORLD is that thing?!?!?!), and, when it decides it copied those barlines, the dreaded “X” and dreaded 4/4(q 1+1+1+1) Signposts and all the errors will wreak havoc on the piece of music down the line.

NO! Hiding Sign Posts NOR Hiding the KEY/TIME Sigs (via Cmd+8) do NOT actually FIX anything, just hides the problem, and I don’t need to HIDE the problem.

The problem is ME, and NOT Dorico. What shall I be doing instead?

Help me Doriconians …. you’re my only hope!

Still trying to accomplish my task ….

May I ask everyone ….

Is there EVER such a use case where one would WANT to (by default) copy the actual TIME/KEY/TEXT? Is there a special mode to JUST select notes in a part?

It’s me, I know. I am the one that is wrong. Help me be right, please. Make me whole. Thank you all in advance.

The system track is designed to select everything in the measures below, so the behavior you describe sounds correct.

After you’ve made a selection (using the system track, or drag select, or shift+click select), you can right click and choose Filter > (make sure Select Only is ticked) > Notes and Chords.

Incorrect. You are using the system track in a part layout. The selected system objects will show as blue, not orange, because they are linked to things outside this layout. Unselected items will always be black.

@asherber by golly, it worked! Ya see, I TOLD YOU it was ME! Thank you so much :folded_hands:t4:

Daniel, I’d recommend you set up a jump bar alias for filtering notes and chords - it will save you a huge amount of time!

Thank you @RichardTownsend !

How would one set up a Jump Bar alias?

Also, what is a Jump Alias?

Go to write mode.

Type J to bring up the jump bar.

Then type ‘filter notes and chords = fn’ into it.

That sets up an alias of ‘fn’ for that command.

Then select everything and type ‘jfn’ enter.

This saves me huge amounts of time. You can set up key commands as an alternative, but personally I find typing a sequence of letters quicker than holding down 2 or 3 keys at the same time, and much more memorable.

Some of my favourites are filtering dynamics, filtering slurs, and increasing and decreasing dynamic intensity, which I’ve set up as fd, fs, id and dd. But I’ve probably set up more than 25 of them.

You can use single letters if you prefer.

Thanks @RichardTownsend ! YES! I use “J” all the time … never knew it was called the Jump Bar. Thank you!

Just wanted to give another big thank you @asherber and than you @RichardTownsend for your help on this! I have been thriving in my work with your help :folded_hands:t4:
