The occasional sound of silence

I’m using Cubase Elements 12.0.70 for play-along pieces, in which I recreate and play some of my favourite songs. I import an existing midifile into instrument tracks, select instruments from Halion and add effects and automation as needed.

I recently found the solution/workaround to a problem I’d been having, where sometimes I’d hear the music I expected to and sometimes I’d hear nothing. The problem is that if the main window is active when I press the space bar or double-click on the time bar, the piece plays correctly. However if I have a track open in another window (eg, key editor) which is active and I press the space bar or double-click in that window to start play, I get no sound at all.

Can anyone please advise if this is a design feature, a software bug, whether I’ve something that’s caused this or my project file has become corrupted. Any and all help is appreciated - thank you.

Hi,

Isn’t the Solo in Editor enabled by any chance?

What happens if you enable Monitor on the given MIDI Track (and focus is in the Project window)?

Could you try to increase the Buffer Size, please?

Right first time! Solo button in top left corner was red. Never used it before hence didn’t spot it. Every day’s a school day. Many thanks, Martin.
