The playback has disappeared

Hi all,

I’m writing a piece in which one of the channels is midi, run by my Key Lab 88 on channel 13. I had the piano using HALion on channel 12, and the two played well together. But then I tried to assign a flute part to channel 10. Now, there’s no sound at all. Here is channel 13

Here is channel 12, the piano

When I press the little “e” I get

Here is channel 10, the flute

Where did I go wrong?

Thanks! (As usual)

Don

While in that state, please do from the menu Help > Create Diagnostic Report and post here the corresponding zip file. Thanks

OK

Dorico Diagnostics.zip (1.1 MB)

Hi @donaldskoog1 , thanks for the data.

Looks all pretty normal to me and I would not expect any problems.
However, please check one more thing, namely got to the menu item Edit > Device Setup and in that dialog click on the Device Control Panel button, another little window will open. In there please check for output ports and that they are active (i.e. tick-marked in front of the port name).

Yup, it’s checked. Everything seems fine. There’s just no sound.

One other weird thing: the midi controller, channel 13, doesn’t have a volume slider in the mixer. Is that related?

I don’t know, yet, have to find out. How about the Dorico mixer, does that show any level metering especially on the red master channel?

And how about the System Audio, is that leveled up? How about other audio apps, do they produce sound?

I started a new doc using the same score setup, then pasted the parts from the old one into the new. The KeyLab VST is working fine with the default HALion sounds. The only thing that worries me is that I don’t know what happened to mess up the first score. If it happens again I suppose I can just reset from scratch, but I’d rather know why.

Do you still have the non-functioning version of your project?

Could you please send it to me at u dot stoermer at steinberg dot de

Thanks

It’s on its way.

Something that looks odd in your screenshots are the expression map setting is blank. I’ve never seen this before.

Have you tried re-applying the Auto playback template in Play > Playback Template?

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn’t work either. Ulf actually looked at the original doc and even he couldn’t figure out how I screwed it up. So, I started a new doc, then transferred the notes I’d written over to it. The new one works fine.
