There are way to many "hidden" features in WL. Why is it getting so complex?

I have been a WL user for 30 years. It is my main DAW but it is getting to the point were there are just too many “features” that are buried in menus and things that used to be “simple” are now super complex. I understand the need for updating but WOW! this is just too much. I know PG is trying to help everyone use WL for their own purposes but the if you compare the complexity of WL 12 vs WL 6 it is 10 to 20 times harder to use.

I use WL everyday and so do my interns but keeping on the buried menus and features is a full time job. That is NOT what makes me money. Getting projects out the door quickly is what makes me money and if I have to spend an hour trying to figure out how to do something is time wasted and unproductive. Sorry but this is NOT working for me. :money_mouth_face:

You don’t need to know or use every feature. You can focus on the tools that matter most for your workflow. It might take a bit of time to explore and identify the functions that really serve your needs, but once you’ve done that, things usually get smoother.

I don’t remember exactly which features you requested in the past, but I’m pretty sure you’ve made some, and some of them were implemented. Well, that’s the same for all categories of users—everyone has different needs, and you can’t just roll that back.

Seems like the development process of WL has lost its track to consumer satisfaction somehow.
Well, that happens sometimes, when a product wants to be a jack of all trades.

I understand fully but there has to be a better way than to put in “hidden” menus that a lot of people don’t even know about. I try and keep abreast of what changes are made BUT the manual is now over 300 pages and I don’t have the time (or energy) to reread the whole manual every time a new version comes out. PG you are doing an EXCEPTIONAL JOB with WL but it is just getting too complex. Sorry!!! FWIW

Almost every audio software looks identical from version 1 to what they have in 2025. For WL the GUI is completely different after version 8. This could have been avoided.

I couldn’t agree more on this.
WL has gone far, maybe a bit too far. If this remains as it is in the next versions, WL might become obsolete. The competition in the audio market is strong and for this, I believe, that WL will pass away during the next 3 to 5 years, if nothing changes towards a more user friendly gui without all the gobbledygook and unnecessary complications and inconsistencies around.

But maybe I just do not belong to the adressed professional usergroup. Could be… I just want to work easy peasy without any hazzle and, as far as possible, without any unnecessary extra clicks here and there. And yes, for this, I do need exact and reliable data on the bit.

I probably use less than 30% of what WaveLab can do and I find it very easy to ignore the things I do not need.

If features you don’t need are truly “hidden”, why do they bother you?

WaveLab 12 is by far the most stable and enjoyable version of WaveLab that I have used in my ~15 years of using it since it came to Mac.

Thank you to PG for making it what it is today, and for the great support on this forum.

WaveLab 12 has been the most commercially successful version in WaveLab’s history, and the feedback has been extraordinary. This paves the way for a bright future for WaveLab :slightly_smiling_face:

Is this a joke? Do you really think Windows, Word, or Cubase—just to name a few—haven’t changed their look in the past 30 years?

WaveLab has gone through three major UI overhauls. There was the WaveLab 1 to 6 era, and back then, WaveLab 6 was heavily criticized for its “outdated look,” just so you know.
Then came the Apple introduction with WaveLab 7, which brought a new interface that lasted until version 8.5. After that, another major redesign came with version 9, which has continued up to now and into the foreseeable future.

I’m open to criticism, as long as it’s constructive and comes with actionable suggestions—not just shallow or unhelpful opinions for the sake of complaining.
I am reading every thread in this forum, which is time consuming. Hence I don’t want to loose my time which one would be better use to help users with real questions and to work on WaveLab itself.
I therefore close this thread.
