This is neither a game-changer nor a bug - I just don’t understand… Can anyone help?
As a wrinkled old (OK… very old) music-maker, sometimes I have cause to rescue files from way, way back. Indeed, right back to when Cubase was very much top-of-the-game with its typography compared to what else was around.
Cubase 4 (yes, I can run that in a virtual machine) lets me open historic *.all files (yes, THAT far back!), and I can save those in Cubase format. Then I can open them in Cubase 13 (the last release I’ve purchased), and save them as .midi or .xml (usually both!) to find which one gives Dorico 6.2 the least indigestion.
Most files, although set for Guitar, arrive with (Cubase) tracks (Dorico parts) called Track 1 etc.
When I import a Guitar ensemble piece from ancient history, I just accept the defaults and wade in to fix things once the import is done.
Here’s the thing…
I can’t pin down the circumstances, or even the types of file I import, but I always end up with “Track 1” (instrument “Track 1”) for each track. Seems OK, doesn’t it. But…
On a good day, if I change the instrument on Track 1 to “Classical Guitar”, it also changes the Track name (ie the Dorico part) to Guitar 1. Subsequent track name changes fix the whole thing. Job done.
On a bad day, if I change the instrument, the part remains called Track 1 and I have to change that by hand. Job not done at all.
None of this is all that important, but is there something that makes Dorico behave in different ways with what seems to be identical import files?
