Thoughts on these components

I’d like to get some thoughts on these components for a project studio DAW. I need to replace my 6 year old Dell Core 2 Duo . I was recently laid off from a job of 14 years and want to make a run at making my studio profitable again. I’m limited as to what I can spend but have been lucky to meet a builder who speced these components. I want to run lots of vst’s mainly a fully loaded Maschine (Native Instruments). Any thoughts are welcome

any specific reason for a H77 mainboard (as opposed to Z77)?

I’ll probably go for a asus z77 mainboard (not sure which model yet), using the onboard graphics chip, same cpu, ssd for boot disk.

Is there any extra use for the “pro” version of Windows 7 in a music production computer?

Kai - its always been this way in the CB forum; sometimes you get feedback and other times you just don’t. Regarding the components, I was lucky to find someone to do this for me and these are the recommended parts. I usually choose the pro version of Windows since,in the past. I’ve run into features not readily apparent at first but lacking in the home editions.

Thanks for your feedback

Hi there,
I second the z77 MB comment. In fact I just put together an Asus P8Z77-V Pro based system for my son using the same exact chip you are looking at. It is VERY fast and I am flat impressed. I am not much of OCer, even less on a DAW, but that chip OC’s very nicely. For 60-70 bones you could add water cooling and keep your OC options open for down the road if you feel you need it. I am getting temps around 30 deg. C at idle with a 20% over clock, or about 4.3 Ghz. On prime it is running at about 70 deg C max load. Should do well for the kids gaming machine. In my mind the Z77 chip set and the Intel I7 your looking at work like a glove. They really team it up big, boot fast and do well together.

Best of luck on your build,
LB
