Three voices in Drum Set

Hello,

Is it somehow possible to have three voices in a drum set kit?

I want to notate a snare swirl together with snare hits and a kick. As you can see in the image below, I need the snare swirl note (downstem) to be independent of both the kick and the snare hits (upstem). For that, I would need a third voice.

I know there are other ways to notate this, but this is how the drummer wants it.

Any ideas?

Yes, in the Kit Editor in Setup mode.

In this case you’ll have to make sure to put the long tied note in the extra voice, otherwise you’ll get this rather confusing result:

This happens because rests in drum kits are, in a sense, less ‘real’ than those in other staves. One can think of off-beat scenarios in which this method will not work at all.
