Thumbnails not appearing after saving Dorico 6 file

After upgrading to Dorico 6, any saves I make to my Dorico files seem to remove the thumbnails from the default open dialog that shows all the recent pieces I’ve been working on. Older files that I haven’t changed since upgrading still show the thumbnails.

I’ve checked, and I’ve got the option to generate thumbnails on save selected, but it doesn’t seem to work.

Anyone else seeing this?

Yeah, I also was wandering about that.

Welcome to the forum, Antony.

Previews are only generated if you are looking at a layout in page view at the time you save the project. If you’re in galley view, no preview will be saved.

Oh, ok, that explains it.

Maybe you could think about a different strategy in that case, because during composing I work 100% in Galley View and thus the Hub looks quite a bit sad here

It would make saving considerably slower, because Dorico would need to cook up a page view in the background, which for large scores can take several seconds. So we’re not minded to do that.

Thanks Daniel. However, I was in page view when I saved, and still nothing appears. I’ve saved in all 3 views - Page, Galley and Fill - and no thumbnails get generated.

Interesting… after restarting Dorico, they appear. But when I save and close my project, and return to the recent projects dialog, the thumbnails don’t display like they did with Dorico 5. Perhaps it’s a caching/refreshing issue instead of a generation issue.

Yeah, same here: I save the project in page view, but the thumbnail did not show up in the hub.
I had to close the hub and reopen it to see the thumbnail.

May I suggest (as a quick win for both sides) to just not remove an existing thumbnail when I save from galley view?
It’s perfectly reasonable to not calculate pages just to have a new thumbnail, but this way I could have a nice-looking and neat Hub.

But if you’ve made sufficient changes, you might be confused as to whether this is the latest version, or not.

Just as confused as I was with my thumbnail suddenly gone

I had to close my file, delete the previous thumbnail, quit Dorico, then re-open and re-save to get a thumbnail. Why not a ‘generate new thumbnail’ button on the project info page?
