Tie direction with 2 voices

Crazy ties.dorico (1.3 MB)

Hi everyone, just wondering if the tie behaviour in the 2nd bar here is normal or a bug. As you can see in the first bar they are as expected, but as soon as I had the 3rds in the 2nd bar, they revert to their ‘normal’ position. I’ve attached the Dorico file as well, but it’s just a new default file so I can’t see anything unusual that I’ve done there.

If it’s a bug… consider this a bug report! If it’s as expected, can anyone explain why?

Thanks!

It certainly seems odd to me as well but there may be a good reason.

Can you show the voice colors for this passage?

After some trying of different settings/options, etc., I have not been able to find the “culprit”. However, it is possible to select an individual tie in Engrave mode and use F to flip it so that it curves in the opposite direction.

If you want to increase the curvature of a tie, select its middle edit handle (in Engrave mode) and move it up or down using either the mouse or the standard Dorico keyboard shortcuts.

Thanks Steven! Yeah, I have the work around sorted, but it just seems like one shouldn’t be needed.

Still not sure if it’s a bug or a feature!

This is the output I’d like to see, by default

Me too!

You can select the odd ties in write mode and flip their direction in the properties panel.
