Tie problem

If I press the tie icon before inputting the D in bar 11 I get a tie going all the way back to the previous D.

Is this by design ?

I think so - that’s the only note the new D could be tied to. You’re not thinking of slurs, are you?

I think asking for a tie before you enter the note is premature. If I were writing with pencil and paper (or entering a tied pair in Finale, for that matter) I would certainly enter the first note, then the tie, then the second note of the pair.
