Ties in 2nd endings

Thanks, @judddanby .
Love this forum! Love the wisdom and knowledge here!

I know. That is why I started with an apology. I know I am being harsh. BUT, having to edit tons of music the past 2 months on Dorico 5 (yep! had to leave Finale behind or I would never make the change) workarounds and cutting corners have become second nature. When you have to spend more than 30 minutes on a single layout issue… multiple times… it is time consuming (and as the wise would say: time is money).
Again sincere apologies for the harshness, but, for a PRO version of a paid app, it is lacking a lot.

What else do you find lacking? There may be ways (or, there may not).

Dorico is currently v5, trying to encompass notation developments with a small dedicated Steinberg team, from Medieval (800?) to now, spanning hundreds of years. In time will be v6 (as soon as it comes out, there will be praise along with complaints about what is missing), then there will probably be several v6 free updates (again, praise and complaints), then v7.

For many, Dorico is the best available at the moment; others prefer different notation software or work among them, depending on the output required.

We try to be patient because there is little we can do about how it all works (life: in general, notation software: in general) but understandably, we are frustrated because we want fixes and improvements NOW.

[Aside] The “Pro” in Dorico Pro could just mean the Steinberg naming sequence, SE, Elements, Pro (similar to Cubase naming of LE, Elements, Artist, Pro) since there are probably no Element musicians as such?

In fairness, you never had to use work-arounds in Finale? I enjoyed using Finale for more than thirty years, but work-arounds were a fact of life there.

Yes. And they were customizable on many levels. Editing avant-garde new music, which involves sometimes creating on screen new notation systems is challenging but doable in Finale.
I don’t want to compare though. That would be unfair.
In Dorico there are a lot of common practice standard notation situations for which finding solutions are very difficult.

In all fairness, I am more than happy working in Dorico (Finally!!! I delayed that for years!)
I want to see Dorico thrive for many reasons (including 3 hard drives full of music, many of them with complicated drum set parts to say the least…)
Editing music (sided with arranging and composing) is part of my life, part of my day.
Long live Dorico (because moving my music library to yet another notation app will just make me go back to pen and paper  )

I use StaffPad, I miss pen and paper, but it’s sometimes still tempting for small projects then spend a few days inputting. I still have pads of paper, fountain pens, Blackwing pencils I use most days for various tasks.

Best wishes with your music!

I’m using Dorico 6 Pro and was going to create the Macro suggested above. When I looked at the Tie section for the Offsets, they aren’t there.

If this issue (tie into 2nd Ending) has a resolution, I’d sure appreciate knowing what it is.

Unfortunately, we still need workarounds for this, like you can read above. Let’s hope the development team finds the time to solve this issue.
