Ties in drum set parts

Good day all…. I’m editing a tune I wrote a couple of years ago using Finale. A couple of things didn’t exactly xml over to Dorico but those are things easily corrected.

What I’m having to do though is align some rhythmic things that the computer/software can easily perform but don’t make sense for live musicians – duh!

In the screenshot below, I’ve added an eighth note (orange) to the kick drum but want it tied to the quarter note that follows. Selecting the note, as I have, and pressing either the “T” to tie or the tie icon in the left panel gives me nothing.

Thoughts??

If you select the note immediately following, does it also show K.Dr. 1? On drum set parts it is possible to have more than one drum/cymbal/tom etc., assigned to display on the same line or space. If it is actually K.Dr. 1 and it definitely won’t tie, try selecting the first of the two notes normally and then selecting the following note as well using ctrl/cmd-click, then press T. That sequence of selection methods is normally used on non-percussion parts to tie notes which are in different voices, but it might work here.

Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately, neither worked. One of the suggestions caused the ride cymbal notes to “tie” and also deleted the follow-on tom and kick drum notes. I’ve also tried deleting the eighth note on the & of 2 then going into input mode, selecting the note value, the tied note tool, and re-entering the note but it still won’t tie.

However, I just solved it by inputting a Lassiez vibrer tie. Can anyone explain why the “traditional” method doesn’t work properly?

If you want to post the file here, or enough of it that still exhibits the problem, I can have a look at it. Others might also be interested in investigating.

LOL…… The joke is on me….. I just had my “Lamont, you big dummy” moment - Fred Sanford/Redd Foxx. I’m essentially trying to write a sustain in the kick drum instead of notating a rhythm. Kick drum doesn’t (shouldn’t) sustain. Geez….. I’m such a dummy sometimes.

Thanks for your input and assistance! I’m surprised someone else didn’t “kick” me and tell me the kick drum doesn’t sustain.

I agree that some drums do not produce enough sustain to be worth notating. But if you want/need, there is no problem to have a tie chain for it:
