Time signature with triplet subdivision

Hello,
I’m working in Dorico 3.5 and I wrote a new composition in 21/8 but it is actually felt in and heard as 7/4 with triplet subdivision.
Can anyone help with the following questions:

  1. Is there a way that I can convert it easily and not having to write it out again?
  2. If not; how do I set up a time signature (in 7/4) where the quarter note by default is divided in triplets?

Thanks in advance,
Anne Mette

Hi Anne, welcome to the forum!

There’s no way to specify tuplets from a time signature. The easiest way might be to write it out once in the first measure, then copy-paste it to latter measures, and use the Lock Duration feature (L) to preserve the rhythms but change the pitches.

If that doesn’t exactly answer your question, feel free to follow up, maybe with a screenshot of what you’re wanting.

One possibility is to hide the 21/8 time signature, and input the 7/4 as text. Here’s a thread that describes how to do that with unicode - a little tricky but worth it, I think.

I’d try this:
Set measure 1 as 7/4 and configure it manually
Set measure 2, etc. as [3+3+3+3+3+3+3]/8 (with the brackets) and hide the time signature.

Thanks all, I’ll try out those ideas:)
