Timpani roll line in Dorico 4 HELP

hello, How do you enter a timpani roll line in Dorico 4? Thank you for your help.

Select the trill marking above the note, then open the Properties panel. There you will find the option to show the trill line.

Thank you very much!

With the trill symbol you get a fake roll. Use the tremolo instead and the synchron player will switch to a real roll. That is if you use the synchron timpani.

The synchron timps are nice. You can choose the size, too🙂

This just came up today for me. I think tremolo slashes make more sense, but tr is the more traditional notation.

Question: if I use Shift+O to enter a trill over a timpani note, do I just type “tr” with no interval in the pop-over?

While the tr notation was common is older scores, the three-slash tremolo has become the standard indication of a roll for percussion instruments.

In the Shift+O popover, enter “tr p1” for a timpani roll (p1 means perfect unison).
