Tip to toggle between soloed tracks

Say you want to listen to the whole mix but toggle between guitar1, bass1 and guitar2, bass2.
I don´t know an easy way in Cubase to do this so here´s the tip:

Assign a key command to this PLE to solo defeat all tracks except the selected ones.
solo defeat.xml (5.5 KB)

1- Select guitar1, bass1, guitar2 and bass2 tracks and apply the PLE.
2 - Select guitar1, bass1 tracks and mute them, now with “S” key on those 2 selected tracks toggle between soloing them and the other 2.

Hi,

  • Route guitar1 and bass1 to the Solo 1 Group Channel.
  • Route guitar2 and bass2 to the Solo 2 Group Channel.
  • On Solo 1 Group Channel, set the Direct routing to
    – Stereo Out
    – Stereo Out 2
  • On Solo 2 Group Channel, set the Direct routing to
    – Stereo Out 2
    – Stereo Out
  • Select both Group Channels.
  • Hold down Alt+Shift to enable the Q-Link.
  • Click on Direct Routing Slot 1.
=> Solo 1 Group Channel is routed to the Stereo Out
=> Solo 2 Group Channel is routed to the Stereo Out 2
=> You can hear only Solo 1 Group Channel, i.e. guitar1 and bass1.
  • Then click on Direct Routing Slot 2.
=> Solo 2 Group Channel is routed to the Stereo Out
=> Solo 1 Group Channel is routed to the Stereo Out 2
=> You can hear only Solo 2 Group Channel, i.e. guitar2 and bass2.

Instead Stereo Out 2, you can also use an empty slot.

nice! thanks
anyway my method is much easier just 4 clicks

Here’s an easier way of accomplishing the same thing.

  1. Enable Q-Link
  2. Select channels Guitar 1 and Bass 1
  3. Click the Mute button to mute these two channels
  4. Click the Solo Button on either Guitar 1 or Bass 1 to toggle

Exclusive solo

oh come on, how couldn´t I figured it out?
perfect!

wait, this not correct, with your method all the other tracks are muted when soloing.

You would have to use Solo Defeat on tracks that should be heard always. In my gif above, the first track demonstrates this.

then I still need my PLE to solo defeat and my tip is easier as I don´t even need Qlink.

No PLE is needed to Solo Defeat.
With Q-Link enabled, just select the channels you want to always hear, hold Ctrl+ Alt and click the Solo button.

The benefit with Q-Link turned on is that you only have to toggle Solo on one channel.

EDIT:

On my end, this step does not work unless Q-Link is turned on. It will only solo the first selected channel.

Of course we don´t need a PLE to solo defeat but with my PLE I can solo defeat a hundred tracks in a few click, instead for using Qlink first I have to select a hundred tracks.
With Qlink turned on I can´t solo defeat tracks, ctrl+alt just Solo tracks.

weird, hitting “s” or "m"I can solo or mute all tracks selected (in Project view, not in Mixconsole)

Ah… I only tested in a Mix Console.
