I can’t seem to get the “to coda” sign to activate on the 2nd time only in the 2nd repeated section after D.S. I set the property to suppress playback on pass 1 (also tried 1,2,3) but Dorico ignores the coda. Also tried placing it on the backward repeat bar. Any suggestions?
Before I make suggestions, I need to know:
- Does the repeat go back to the beginning of the flow?
- Is the Segno before, at or after the rhythmic position that the repeat goes back to?
Hi John, no the repeat doesn’t go back to the beginning of the flow; there’s another 8-bar repeated section before that, and the sign is on the beginning of the first repeated section (which isn’t at the beginning of the flow. Thanks for the reply, hope that it makes sense.
To make sure I understand the desired playback sequence, I have created a simplified structure. Click on the image to enlarge it.
I believe you want the playback sequence to be bars 1-4, 3-10, 7-8, 11-12, 3-4, 3-10, 7-8, 13-14. Is this correct?
Yes, that’s correct in principle.
Here is a simplified structure that gives the desired playback sequence:
To get the first repeat to play after the D.S. jump, go to Library > Playback Options > Repeats and activate Play repeats after D.S./D.C. jump. To get the first ending to play after the D.S. jump, select the first ending bracket in engrave mode and set the following properties:
- No. times played to 3
- Times played for segment to 1,3
- Custom text to 1.
To prevent the To Coda jump from occurring before the first ending is repeated, change the D.S. al Coda to a D.S. with its Custom text property set to D.S. al Coda. To cause the To Coda jump to occur after the first ending is repeated, perform the following actions:
- Add a D.S. and a Segno at a rhythmic position inside the first ending and hide them.
- Add a D.S. al Coda at a different rhythmic position, hide it and move it to the same position as the hidden Segno.
- Select the hidden D.S., D.S. al Coda and Segno and set their Marker index property to 2.
BRILLIANT.. many thanks. Not in this incarnation would I have figured that out!
