Q1: To get step 5 correct I assume I need to put the ‘to Coda’ between the first and the second house but it seems it is only possible to put it in either house 1 (as in the example above) or house 2, not between. How can I accomplish this?
Q2: Is it possible to use the repeat marking menu to create the ‘D.S. al Coda poi Coda’? Now it is done using a text box which obviously won’t play correct. In the Engrave Options there is something similar shown in the settings for multi-line line gaps.
Before giving more specific advice, I need you to confirm that the following list of bar numbers represents the desired playback sequence for your simplified example:
After creating 7 bars in common time, I changed the barline between bars 2 and 3 to a start repeat barline. Then I added a first repeat ending over bar 4 and an additional repeat ending over bars 5 and 6, causing the final repeat ending to start over bar 7. After changing the end repeat barline between bars 6 and 7 to a normal barline, I added a D.S. after bar 6 and a Segno before bar 2. To cause the first ending to be used on the first and third passes, I selected that ending in engrave mode and changed the properties No. times played to 4 and Times played for segment to 1,3.
Here is the same repeat structure after making it look more like the one in the first post of this topic:
I selected the first ending in engrave mode and changed Custom text to 1.; selected the second ending and changed End of line to Open, to next barline; and selected the final ending and changed Y offset to a value large enough to move that ending off the page. Then I added a Coda at the start of bar 7 and a To Coda at the end of bar 4, both showing only the Coda sign. I selected the first ending in engrave mode and moved its right handle to the left, selected the second ending and moved its left handle to the right, and selected the To Coda marker and moved it between those endings. Finally, I hid the D.S. marker and added system-attached text near the end of bar 6 to describe the repeat jump. To add the Coda sign while entering the text, I right-clicked and selected Insert Music Text from the context menu, entered coda in the search box to locate the Coda sign, and clicked OK.
